Smart crop and blur border effect

This is a Photoshop CS4 tutorial to make a photo with a smart crop and blurred border effects. I call this a smart crop because we can select a portion of the photo, and use the outer part of original photo as a border.

I use a photo of roaster from stock.xchng with the subject located in the center. It is very big, so I reduce the photo size first for this tutorial.

To start making this smart crop border, after you open the photo in Photoshop CS4, select all the photo area by selecting Select > Select All menu.

Make the selection area smaller by selecting Select > Transform Selection menu. Or by select any Selection Tools in Photoshop toolbox then right click on the selection area, choose the Transform Selection option.
