Zoom, Navigating in Photoshop CS4

In this Photoshop CS4 tutorial, I am writing about the new zoom and Navigating tool. In previous Photoshop version, I use Navigator Palette and short key to zoom and navigating across my working image. When I used Photoshop CS4 for the first time, there was a question in my mind. Where is Navigator Palette? Why Navigator palette doesn’t appear in Photoshop default workspace?

A few time after I got a new graphic card and start to use the GPU feature, I know the answer. Because it is now more easier and fun to zoom and navigating even without accessing Navigator Palette.

I have write about rotate view tool in previous post. And now I will write some more of the new features, about zooming and navigating tools.

Zoom Tool

The short key of zoom, still the same like in previous Photoshop version. I mostly use these key:

  • Ctrl + + = Zoom In
  • Ctrl + - = Zoom Out
  • Ctrl + 0 = Fit on Screen
  • Ctrl + 1 = Actual Pixel
  • Tab = This is not a zooming, this is use to view working image without panel and tool box.
I include it here because I think this is very useful feature.
  • Ctrl + Tab = Navigate through the opened working image. Just like switching to another tab in Mozilla Firefox browser.

You can use zoom tool with ordinary left click to zoom in and Alt + click to zoom out. There is something you can do in Photoshop CS4, that is you can click and hold to do a smooth zooming. In this way, you can zoom with closing view animation. To zoom out, you can press and hold Alt click while you press and hold your mouse click in the same time.
