Photoshop Tutorial to Split Channels into Separated Images

Every image which we open in Photoshop is having separated channel that can be viewed through Channel Panel. It depend of the image mode, RGB will give us 3 channels while CMYK give us 4 channels. Actually we can break up channels into many separated images. Each of the channels will be one image file. Here is Photoshop tutorial to do it.

How to Split Channel in to Separated Images

Open any of your images or photo. I use free royalty image of fresh fruit and vegetables from 1876-stock.xchng for this Photoshop CS4 tutorial. After you open the image, activate or select the Channel panel.

select the Channel panel

Click on the panel option button, and then select Split Channels.

Because this image is in RGB mode, the image will be separated in to three files, each of them are presented in the corresponding channel. Here are three of them:

Don’t worry about the original one, because these are different files. The original image is still untouched.
