By using Photoshop, you can easily make your own CD cover. In this Photoshop tutorial you can add your photo or maybe some nice text effect in to the CD cover. The most important in making your own CD cover is you have to measure how width is the CD dimension.
Compact Disc is in standard size of: 4.75 inches x 4.75 inches, or 12 centimeters x 12 centimeters. So you have to make sure the image you working at in Photoshop is not bigger nor smaller than that dimension.
Make a Photoshop File that Fit to CD Cover Dimension
Select Photoshop menu: File > New, and fill the width and height as follow:
- Width: 4.75 inches
- Height: 4.75 inches
- Resolution: 300 dpi
Use this file to make your CD cover.
Make a Photoshop Template for CD cover by Using Ruler Guides
If you plan to print the CD cover in a Legal paper size, since some of the printer may not be able to print a small paper, you have to make a template image for it. The simple way to ensure that the image will perfectly fit to the CD cover is by using ruler guides. If the ruler is not visible, you have to choose Photoshop menu: View > Rulers or press Ctrl + R.
You can change the ruler measurement into inches, if it is in different measurement system right now. How to change the Photoshop ruler measurement? It is by right clicking on the ruler, and then select the one you want.
Drag the ruler to fit your CD cover size. Use this as your guide.
