Making Selection Using Channel in CS4

Selection in Photoshop can be made in many ways. By using standard selection tools in tool box, or by some other techniques like using channel. In this Photoshop CS4 tutorial, I am gonna show how to make a selection by using Channel.

How To Make Selection by Using Channel in Photoshop CS4

Step 1
Open up your photo using Photoshop CS4. In this tutorial I use a free photo from FreeDigitalPhotos.net.

We will separate the photo models and the ground part from the sky, so we can change the sky with other image as background.
Then select Channel Panel (Window > Channel). Select one of the most contrast channel in there. Maybe that will not the same like mine.

Step 2
Duplicate this most contrast channel by dragging it to Add New Channel button.

Step 3
Select Burn tool, adjust the Range in to Shadow an lower opacity. Stroke Brush tool in the dark area, in the border of the sky and the ground.

Continue to stroke until all dark part of the border is complete.
