How to Use Magic Wand Tools in Photoshop CS4Sponsored Links
There are two type of selection tools in Photoshop CS4 which can be use to make a quick selection, especially for images/photos that has similar color. Those tools are Magic Wand tool and Quick Selection tool. Magic wand is available since earlier Photoshop version, while the Quick Selection tool is available in later Photoshop version as complement to its predecessor.
How do I Use Magic Wand to make selection
Open any image / photo that have lot of similar color, such panoramic picture or wall photos. I use an image sample from Photoshop CS4 for this tutorial.
Select Magic wand tool from Photoshop toolbox.
You can adjust how accurate this tool will be. You can do this by filling number in Tolerance (located in Option bar). Tolerance default value is 32. Lower tolerance value means the magic wand will be more accurate. Perfect for less contrast photos, so we can get more precise selection. While higher value will make the magic wand less accurate. This is perfect for more contrast photos, because you can get wider range of selection color.
Try to experiment with Tolerance value, because it will depend on your image. You may use higher tolerance value for less contrast image instead of lower value; it is all up to you.
You can make a selection by clicking any part of the image. The same color area of it will be automatically selected.
To add more selection area, you can do it by holding Shift key while click again in other area on that image. Alternatively, you can also use the Add to selection button at Magic Wand’s Option Bar.
That’s how a quick Photoshop tutorial to make selection by using Magic Wand.
