Background eraser tool is more like advanced version of previously one. This tool can erase any part of the image as long they have similar color, but only in a specified radius. You can reduce / expand the radius just like when you adjust brush tip. I usually use Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] due their effectiveness.
Adjust the Background Eraser setting at option bar. You can make select the Limits as Discontiguous, Contiguous, or Find Edges. I usually use Find Edges because it more accurate in some images. You can also adjust the Tolerance value, the less its value means less color is considered as similar.

You can erase the image based on the center pointer, not the circle radius. Even if the pointer radius is come over the object we want to preserve, it will not erased as long the center pointer is in different color.

Magic Eraser tool is eraser with similar abilities as Background eraser, but it will erase entire image based on their similar color. It more like Magic Wand, but it act as eraser. This Photoshop tool will come handy for images with similar color in large area.
