To separate the eagle from it’s background, I click on the Color Range button.

Using Color Range in mask panel is similar with using it in Select > Color Range (in Photoshop CS3 or before). In my opinion, can only be effective if used in photos with similar color background. It will be difficult to apply it in full of color / object images.

In the Color range dialog box, use the Eye Dropper tool to click any area we want to dismiss. Because I want to discard the green background, and keep the eagle, I turn on the Invert option.

Continue clicking on the green background with Plus Eye dropper tool (Add to Sample) until all the green background photo is disappear. also adjust the Fuzziness and Range slider to get best result. Then click OK when you done.
