There are some enlargement plugins that compatible for Photoshop CS4 right now. One of them is Blow Up 2 from Alien Skin Software.

Why do we need plugins to enlarge image size, since Photoshop can do it too with Image > Image size or by utilizing Crop tool? This is because complexity of an image that made from pixels. When we increase image size, the range of it’s pixel are expanded, in result give us a jaggy, and many of them are blurry images. Especially when doing in a low resolution pixel (72 dpi) and from a very small image.

Blow Up 2 said that this software is temporary change bitmap image into vector in the enlargement process. I just believe it because I don’t know exactly how this software work. I just know that Blow Up 2 is actually resulting a better image enlargement.

I have download the demo version of this software and install it on my PC. And I try it to enlarge some of my photos.

This image below is a photo of my guitar. I am gonna enlarge some portion of it to 1024×768 pixel. The first one, I enlarge it using Photoshop’s crop tool. To do this, I set the crop tool to 1024 px width and 768 px height; 72 pixel/per inch in option bar.

I save the result’s screenshot in different file, and I undo that step to get back to original image size.
