How to Make Brush in Photoshop CS4

Because I don’t want this brush will be to large, I will crop this image into smaller size by using Crop tool.

After the image are pure black and white, and the size also acceptable, we can start to make this image as brush. You can experiment using gray image to make the brush semi transparent.

To make this image into brush, is by select Edit > Define Brush Preset menu.

A confirmation name dialog box will appear, and in here you can type any name you want for your brush.

Your brush is already appear in your brushes list when you select Brush tool.

    Thank you, this is amazing. I have a problem though: “Define brush preset” is grayed out on my EDIT menu and I cannot select it. I have followed the instructions exactly as written and I cant figure out why I cant save this as a brush. Please Help? Thank you.

      @sasha: Try to flatten all the layer (Layer > Flatten Image) before select Define brush preset. Or, select the Background layer (don’t active in a shape layer). Hope these solve your problem.
