In this Photoshop tutorial, we will make a silhouette effects manually. I mean we will change a normal photo in to silhouette. The photo being use in this Photoshop tutorial is a photo of Desert Dancer, belong to Marcus J. Ranum.

Make Silhouette Effects Manually using Photoshop

Step 1
Open a photo with a photo models in Photoshop. You can use any of your photos, even if the photo subject is not human, for example plant, animal, or house hold items.

Step 2
Remove the photo background from the model, so we can change the Background. To do this, I have wrote the tutorial in Making Selection Using Channel in CS4.

Step3
Make a layer as new Background. Place this Background layer below the model’s layer.

The Background layer will be filling with dark color. You can use single dark color, gradient, or other dark image as background. In this tutorial, I use a cloud filter to generate the background. If you want to make cloud image like this, you can start select Black and Gray color as Foreground and Background color. Then select Filter > Render > Clouds. If you are not pleased with the result, you can randomly generate cloud image by pressing Ctrl + F (this will repeat the last filter).
